Journal Page-Connecting with the women in your life-Sharing birth stories
Find a mother/grandmother/other woman who has meant a great deal to you and whom you respect. Ask her about her own births with these specific questions in mind…
1. What helped you most when you gave birth?
2. What was your spiritual experience of giving birth?
3. Is there anything you would do differently?
4. What do you wish you had known before hand?
5. If you could do it over again, what do you wish you could do the same?

1. Having the support of close friends and family there by my side. It may seem weird to some, but I wanted everyone who is important to me there.
3. No way, it was perfect!
4. Just how difficult pushing really is. I only pushed for an hour, but ended up with two black eyes. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
5. I AM doing it over again, in just 11 days (or so)! Hopefully this time I am able to let go again, and just trust in my body and the baby to do what they know how to do. I feel like I had such a quick, easy labor & delivery because I was able to sort of step outside of myself and not try to control what was happening.

With my first birth I wanted a natural birth with no medication, but I wish I had known about doulas and how to put together a good support team to help me achieve my goal. I ended up being induced and getting a narcotic and an epidural. Now, I wouldn’t actually change that experience if I could, because each birth experience has been a journey for me and I feel I’ve been able to learn and grow from each one. After having a home birth, however, it would be hard for me to go back to the hospital. I feel each woman should pray about each pregnancy and child in deciding where to birth her baby, and if she doesn’t believe in prayer she should at least follow her feelings about it. I could go on, but that’s probably enough for the time being
